>> DOCTORATE - UNIVERSITY DEGREEObjective:The doctorate program offers students the highest level of specialization in a discipline. Students acquire highly specialized knowledge and full command of specialized skills that they will apply and develop in arguing and defending their culminating work: the doctorate thesis. Academic requirements and duration:Students must complete other 700 additional hours of study; i.e. 70 credits more than in the Master's program. Duration of the program ranges from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the amount of research and work that students will devote to the completion of their doctorate thesis. Usually, 70 % to 100 % of the credits earned at the doctorate level come from the thesis itself. In certain disciplines, BIU requires doctoral candidates to consult specific bibliographical sources as part of the research process. With approval from BIU, candidates are free to choose the topic, content, and focus of the thesis. The final requirement consists in submitting a 70 page thesis paper for review and evaluation by BIU authorities. Restricted Admission.Admission is restricted to adults of 27 years of age or over who have earned a Master's degree or equivalent amount of academic credits. In addition, from the total number of credits earned in the Doctorate program, a minimum of 25 must be earned through a revalidation of prior knowledge or experience. Credits granted can proceed from a number of sources; namely, experience and knowledge gained independently (revalidation), seminars attended, and credits transferred from other universities. Admission requirements vary from discipline to discipline. Completion of program by full validation:Students interested in obtaining the Ph.D. degree by a full validation of their experience and knowledge must submit a 70 page thesis paper describing a project developed in the student's discipline. In certain cases, previously published material can be counted towards the degree. |
